In the Pale Flame artifact chronicle ('Moment of Cessation'), historical records reveal that his lifelong obsession with wealth began as a bitter question directed at the heavens: why should gods who never knew hunger hold sole authority over Mora, the physical medium of mortal survival?

In traditional Italian commedia dell'arte, the figure of Pantalone is a wealthy, scheming Venetian merchant whose greed and financial leverage drive the plot's intrigues. Within Genshin Impact, Pantalone elevates this archetype into a philosophical rebellion against the Seven. By wearing lavish gemstone rings on nearly every finger and wrapping himself in aristocratic furs while never opening his eyes to reveal his true gaze, Pantalone presents the image of an affable, smiling banker—concealing a cold, calculating revolutionary who believes that when humanity controls the circulation of wealth, the gods themselves will become obsolete.

In his youth, Pantalone endured crushing destitution, watching how the presence or absence of golden Mora dictated life, dignity, and death among ordinary mortals. Despite his towering intellect and relentless drive, the gods never granted him a Vision. Rather than falling into despair, this divine silence radicalized him. He concluded that the circulation of Mora—literally minted from the flesh and blood of Rex Lapis at the Golden House—was the ultimate instrument by which the gods subjugated humanity under the guise of fair trade.

Recognizing that his revolutionary economic theories aligned with her rebellion against the Heavenly Principles, the Cryo Archon—the Tsaritsa—inducted Pantalone into the Eleven Fatui Harbingers as the Ninth Seat, 'Regrator,' and entrusted him with absolute authority over Snezhnaya's treasury. Under the direction of Pantalone, the Northland Bank expanded rapidly beyond Snezhnaya's borders, establishing a heavily fortified branch right in the heart of Liyue Harbor to study, infiltrate, and eventually rival the Qixing's control over global commerce.

Over the years, Pantalone orchestrated countless covert economic operations across Teyvat. He financed the eccentric research of the Second Harbinger, Dottore; attempted to manipulate wine trade routes and political succession in Mondstadt and Liyue; and sponsored experimental alternative currency systems—most notably the Credit Coupons introduced inside Fontaine's Fortress of Meropide—as live-fire trials for a post-Mora world economy.
