Biologically and ontologically, Freminet is an ordinary mortal human born in Fontaine, carrying the Ousia alignment of Fontaine's dual Pneumousia arkhe system. Although he possesses no non-human bloodline or Abyssal transformation, his identity is deeply intertwined with two mechanical extensions of his psyche: his heavy brass-and-steel diving helmet and his miniature clockwork penguin, Pers. Whenever the emotional pressures of surface life, social confrontation, or traumatic memories threaten to overwhelm him, slipping on his diving helmet creates an instant acoustic and psychological barrier that allows him to focus with icy precision.

Furthermore, the story of how Freminet obtained his Cryo Vision reveals the profound spiritual weight of his identity within the House of the Hearth. During the corrupt rule of the previous Director, Crucabena, he initially believed he had been awarded a Vision as a badge of honor, only to discover later that the gem Crucabena gave him was a counterfeit prop designed to manipulate his loyalty. It was only when he wept at the bottom of the sea after learning the truth of his mother's sacrifice—and resolved to protect his remaining family with his own hands—that a genuine Cryo Vision crystallized beside him in the ocean depths.

Born into an impoverished household in Fontaine, Freminet grew up cherishing bedtime fairy tales and tinkering with discarded gears alongside his loving mother. However, when crushing debts to ruthless loan sharks threatened to result in the child being seized as collateral, his mother made an agonizing choice: she surrendered her young son to the House of the Hearth, then run by the cruel Fatui Harbinger Crucabena, and told the boy that she was abandoning him because he was a burden so that he would not try to run back to her and fall into the creditors' hands.

Inside the orphanage, Crucabena exploited the boy's gentle nature and terror of abandonment, forcing him to carry out covert underwater eliminations while lying to him that his mother had sold him out of greed. To cope with the guilt and horror of these missions, Freminet retreated inward, constructing the clockwork penguin Pers to hold the tears he was forbidden to shed and retreating to the ocean floor where no human voices could reach him.

His life changed forever when Peruere rose up, slew Crucabena, and assumed the mantle of 'Father' (Arlecchino). Under Arlecchino's leadership, the abusive survival trials were abolished, and Arlecchino handed Freminet the locket left behind by his biological mother, revealing the truth of her selfless sacrifice to save him. Welcomed warmly as a younger brother by Lyney and Lynette, Freminet finally found a family worth surfacing for.
