1. Executive Overview — Who is Ganyu in Genshin Impact?

Ganyu, revered throughout Liyue Harbor as the Plenilune Gaze and the indispensable General Secretary of the Liyue Qixing at Yuehai Pavilion, is a five-star Cryo bow user who has silently guided the administrative heart of Liyue for over three millennia. While modern merchants and clerks see a soft-spoken, tireless civil servant who processes mountains of harbor tax ledgers, maritime treaties, and municipal permits without error, Ganyu is in truth a half-human, half-Qilin Illuminated Adeptus who fought alongside Rex Lapis in the Archon War.

Caught forever between the bustling mortal streets of Liyue Harbor and the mist-shrouded peaks of Jueyun Karst, Ganyu embodies the bridge between humanity and the adepti. On this page, cosplayers, 3D digital artists, and lore researchers can inspect the official Ganyu 3D model—as well as her Twilight Blossom ceremonial attire—while exploring her sacred Qilin biology, her ancient contract with Morax, her two-stage Frostflake Arrow combat mechanics, and her journey toward self-acceptance.

02 · SPECIES, LINEAGE & ONTOLOGY · 种族与血脉考据

Ganyu’s Species, Heritage & Biological Nature

To understand Ganyu's place in Teyvat's cosmology, one must examine the nature of the Qilin among Liyue's Illuminated Beasts. In the mythology of Liyue, the Qilin are the most benevolent and gentle of all adeptal species: strict herbivores who refuse to harm even the smallest insect, walk so lightly they do not crush blades of grass, and drink only pure morning dew and eat bitter Qingxin petals. Ganyu was born over three thousand years ago from the union of a mortal human father and an illuminated Qilin mother who encountered him while bathing in a mountain spring.

Because of this dual heritage, Ganyu possesses both human anatomy and unmistakable Qilin traits, most notably the pair of curved crimson-and-black horns growing directly from her skull—which mortals who do not know her true nature often mistake for an ornate headdress—and her multi-millennial adeptal lifespan. However, her mixed bloodline also causes her chronic existential insecurity: she often fears she is too adeptal to truly belong among short-lived humans, yet too immersed in mortal bureaucracy to fit in among the solitary hermits of Jueyun Karst.

03 · HISTORICAL BACKGROUND & ORIGINS · 身世背景与过往历史

The Origins and Historical Journey of Ganyu

More than three thousand years ago during the brutal Archon War, a much younger Ganyu answered the call of the Geo Archon Morax (Rex Lapis) to defend the Guili Assembly and early Liyue from rampaging sea monsters and rival gods. In one famously embarrassing incident regularly recounted by her adoptive adeptal mentor, Cloud Retainer (Xianyun), a giant monster attempted to swallow the chubby young Ganyu whole, only to choke to death when her waistline got stuck in its throat—an episode that turned Ganyu into a lifelong calorie-counter who strictly limits herself to vegetarian meals.

When the Archon War concluded and the first Liyue Qixing was established to govern the nascent harbor, Ganyu signed a solemn contract with Rex Lapis to serve as the eternal bridge and guide for Liyue's mortal leaders. The moment she resolved to lay down her weapons of war and take up the brush of governance to nurture human prosperity, a Cryo Vision manifested at her hip.

Across dozens of generations of Qixing leaders—from the ancient founders to the modern era of Ningguang and Keqing—Ganyu has remained at her desk in Yuehai Pavilion, quietly drafting the policy frameworks that transformed Liyue Harbor into the commercial capital of Teyvat.

04 · PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE & BONDS · 性格特征、行事准则与人际关系

Ganyu’s Personality, Ideals, and Relationships in Teyvat

In her daily work at Yuehai Pavilion, Ganyu is gentle, conscientious to a fault, and famously prone to nodding off for brief naps wherever she stands after pulling consecutive all-nighters. Because her memory spans thousands of years of Liyue's legal codes and family histories, she handles the workload of three full secretarial departments single-handedly, as demonstrated when three replacement secretaries could barely keep pace with a fraction of her tasks during her brief absence.

Her closest parental figure is Xianyun (Cloud Retainer), who raised Ganyu and Shenhe in Jueyun Karst and delights in embarrassing Ganyu by sharing childhood stories of her fondness for rolling down hills and having her horns petted. Ganyu also shares a sisterly kinship with her fellow disciple Shenhe and holds deep reverence for Rex Lapis, whose human guise as Zhongli she treats with respectful discretion.

Within the Liyue Qixing, Ganyu works in daily harmony with the Tianquan Ningguang and the Yuheng Keqing. Although Ganyu initially felt hurt by Keqing's outspoken skepticism toward the adepti before the Osial crisis, the two developed immense mutual admiration after Keqing came to appreciate Ganyu's irreplaceable devotion to Liyue's people.

05 · COMBAT ABILITIES & ELEMENTAL MASTERY · 战斗能力、技能机制与神之眼权能

Ganyu’s Combat Capabilities, Elemental Authority & Kit Breakdown

In both canon lore and gameplay mechanics, Ganyu is an unmatched long-range Cryo artillery powerhouse and persistent AoE Cryo applicator. Combining her innate Qilin adeptal illumination with her Cryo Vision, Ganyu commands freezing dew and celestial hailstorms across the battlefield without needing to rely on close-quarters combat.

Normal & Charged Attack Choreography

Through Liutian Archery, Ganyu performs up to six graceful bow shots. Her claim to fame is her two-stage Charged Aimed Shot: at Charge Level 1 she fires an icy arrow, while at Charge Level 2 she fires a Frostflake Arrow that blooms on impact into a devastating AoE burst of Cryo shrapnel capable of decimating entire camps from afar.

Elemental Skill & Tactical Deployment

Her signature Elemental Skill, Trail of the Qilin, leaves behind a translucent Ice Lotus while Ganyu dashes gracefully backward, dealing AoE Cryo damage. The Ice Lotus continuously taunts nearby enemies based on Ganyu's Max HP and explodes in another wave of Cryo damage when destroyed or when its duration expires.

Elemental Burst & Supreme Manifestation

When unleashing Celestial Shower, Ganyu coalesces atmospheric frost and dew into a radiant Sacred Cryo Pearl that floats above the battlefield for fifteen seconds, continuously raining down shards of ice that deal AoE Cryo damage in a massive circular field.

Lore Strength, Passives & Signature Synergy

Supported by her passive talents Undivided Heart and Harmony between Heaven and Earth, Ganyu gains a 20 percent Crit Rate bonus on subsequent Frostflake Arrows for five seconds and grants active party members inside Celestial Shower's radius a 20 percent Cryo DMG Bonus. Her utility passive refunds 15 percent of ore used when crafting Bow-type weapons.

Channeling her Qilin illumination into the traveler to empower their defenses, Ganyu helped bridge the divide between mortal governance and adeptal guardianship.

Event #2: Sea of Clouds, Sea of People (Sinae Unicornis Chapter)

Story Quest: Sinae Unicornis Act I

Believing that the Qixing's proclamation of the age of humanity meant she was no longer welcome in Liyue Harbor, Ganyu retreated to Jueyun Karst and completed Xiao's rigorous adeptal trial, only to find she missed the warmth of human society. Returning to Liyue Harbor to investigate a tax evasion scheme with the Traveler, she discovered how deeply Yuehai Pavilion and the harbor citizens relied on her, renewing her contract by her own free will.
